Year 5 Visit to Blists Hill

19 April 2016

On Tuesday 19th April Year 5 visited Blists Hill (a Victorian Town Museum) near Ironbridge. The purpose of the visit was to learn about how people of different classes lived during the Victorian Era.

During the day the children had the opportunity to dress up as Victorian children and experience what it would have been like to go to school in Victorian times.

In the schoolroom the children chanted their tables, practised their spellings and reading and had a short history lesson. They also had the opportunity to explore the town, looking at different shops and houses. They compared the living arrangements of the squatter's cottage, which was very tiny and sparse, to that of the terrace house, which was a little more comfortable, and the doctor's house which had all the modern conveniences of the time. They also looked around the Grocer's shop, the Pharmacy and the Drapers.

The children were well behaved and had a very enjoyable and informative day.
