Year 6 World War II Day

27 February 2013

On Wednesday 27th February Year 6 experienced what life was like on the home front during World War II.

The Day-Star Theatre group came in and put on a production called 'Put That Light Out' which follows a mother of two whose children have been evacuated and whose husband is in the army. They talk about the hardship of life during the war having to deal with rationing, air raids, blackouts, evacuation and growing food.

In the afternoon the children played games and did dances (a jive and a barn dance) from the 1940s. After this the children tried Anzac biscuits which were popular during this period.

The children had the chance to dress up as Evacuees, Military personnel, Land Army Girls and much more. All the children dressed up which added to the enjoyment of the experience.
