Deaf Awareness

6 December 2012

On the afternoon of Thursday 6th December, Year 4 were visited by a teacher from Ashwood Park Primary School, who teaches in their deaf unit.

We learnt how to be a friend to someone who is deaf and how important our facial expression and body language is in order to communicate effectively.

She also taught us how to fingerspell the alphabet using British Sign Language. After learning the alphabet we are now all able to sign 'My name... What's your name?'. We also learnt how to sign numbers, how old we are and where we live.
