Reception's Chinese New Year Celebrations

8 February 2016

On 8th February Reception class celebrated Chinese New Year 2016 (the year of the monkey).

Firstly they listened to and acted out the story of the great race where all of the animals wanted the New Year to be named after them. They then made little paper dragons and worked together to paint a great big fabric dragon for their dance.

The children were also very lucky to have one of the children’s parents come into class and to talk about how they celebrate Chinese New Year at home and he then gave each of his classmates fortune cookies and special red money purse filled with chocolate coins.

In the afternoon the children then took their big dragon into the hall with some scarves and musical instruments and had a lovely time dancing, playing and moving to the music.
