Year 4 Residential at Astley Burf

April 2008

In April 2008, Year 4 went to Astley Burf Outdoor Education Centre. The visit compromised of a three night stay in the Worcestershire countryside at a tranquil, rural location.

Astley Burf is a secure site, with accommodation in luxury centrally heated log cabins. Each cabin sleeps 10 to 12 children and is fitted with its own toilets/bathrooms, fire and security alarms. Also on site are two classrooms, a recreation/meeting room, staff room, dining room, shop, drying room and a shower and toilet block.

The activity programme for the week was extensive. Highlights included visiting several local places of interest, such as Witley Court and Church, Glasshampton Monastery, a day at the Malvern Hills trekking the Herefordshire Beacon and British Camp and a visit to the historic market town of Ledbury.

The children studied the local history and geography of the centre and took part in some very interesting and picturesque walks around the surrounding hills and woodland of Astley Village, Shrawley and Dunley. The children also went swimming at the local leisure centre in Stourport.

The centre was alive with nature and the children loved studying the local wildlife.

There was also a recreation room with table tennis and other games, an adventure playground and a picnic area. A great time was had by all!
