Arts Festival Week 2008

June 2008

The week began full of community spirit when the children went to Mount Pleasant Methodist Chapel, where parents and members of the community were entertained by a variety of musical performances including songs from 'Pleasant Sounds' (the school choir) and 'Kiss the Ceiling' (our boy band).

The ocarina and recorder groups played a collection of their favourite pieces and our school orchestra made their debut performance led by Mr Masson. There was also Tudor music performed by members of Year 5 and an individual performance by Elloise Banks on the piano.

To end the first day Year 2 and 3 entertained us with their samba drumming in the playground and parents were encouraged to participate too!

The talent show was once again a tremendous success with children participating from Year 1 to Year 6. Year 6 led the event which this year was organised into 4 categories - male and female vocals, groups and other talents. The winners had an opportunity to perform in front of the whole school and parents.

Throughout the week every class from Nursery to Year 6 had an opportunity to show off their talents by either singing or dancing and, at the end of each day, there was an opportunity to hear 'Pleasant Sounds' and 'Kiss the Ceiling' and enjoy a variety of dancing styles including '70s Disco', 'Strictly Ballroom' and 'Street Dancing'.

There are many pupils learning a musical instrument at Mount Pleasant such as the flute, clarinet, oboe, violin, cello, tenor horn and guitar. They showed off their talents with an afternoon performance in front of children and parents. For many of these children it was the first time they had performed in front of an audience.

The Arts Exhibition opened on Friday and parents and people from the local community were invited to view the exhibits throughout the day. An amazing variety of talent from both the children and their families was displayed, and all classes had an opportunity to visit.

Arts week ended with the 'Big Sing'. All the children from Reception to Year 6 sang together 'as one' in front of parents at the end of the school day.

We pride ourselves on the immense variety of opportunity we offer to our children and enjoy celebrating their success during this fabulous week. Well done to everyone!
